ok so here is the thing I have plenty of oil and just started running Mobile 1 syntetic about 1 week ago, I havnt driven the car that much but here is what happens

1. when idling cold in about 1/4" above the 2nd tick on the guage (The one just low to the left of the o in oil)

2. when idiling warm I stay around 1/2 to a little more than 1/2 between the 0 and 2nd tick mark. (Seems a bit low but it is idle)

3. When putting through town under 3k (around 2 to 2.5k) rpm oil pressure stays maybe about 1/2 inch above 2nd tick, a little more than half way under the third tick.

4. When getting onto the freeway oil pressure drops pretty fast just to above the point of a warm idle. (Scarry as hell)

5. when cruzing on the freeway in 5th about 3k rpm around 55 i think, oil pressure drops all the way down almost to the zero mark, but no idiot light. Obviosly I have not tested this more than once but Im scared as hell right now..

I can go pickup an autometer guage at the local store here no biggy but Im just afraid it might tell me the same thing the stock one is.

My thoughts are since no idiot light at almost 0 oil pressure that maybe the stock sending unit is going south and stops reading once it spikes over a certain pressure. which would be consistent with the oil pressure i would expect to see.

Also my oil return line from turbo has leak (the slowboy kit is sitting on my passenger seat right now) I was on my way to fix that. but my oil level is still fine (a bit high) right at the 2nd notch in the dip stick..

Please any advice would be appreciated, I live in an appt and cant work on here, Im limited to local town trips (Even that scares me). I might just have to go rent a traier and tow it down to my parents house and get it fixed.

put a mechanical guage on it to see if it's the sensor/guage or if your pressure is really going all wonky...

anybody have any ideas what the threads are in the oil filter houseing where the stock guage sensor goes??

I have seen some things online for electonic guages that just say "put a tee here" type thing,

Im going to get an autometer mechanical guage but I would like to get the right sized adapters.

FYI i have a new OEM sensor on order from JNZ should be in next week sometime.

Bump---

Again anyone know what size / kind the threads are?

I think we already covered get a manual guage angle..

Hey jason you should get a mechanical gauge on there to check to see if the sender is the problem..

Or you know it could be that sender.. you might consider getting a mechanical gauge..

:P

the threads are 1/8 npt once you run a tap thru them :)

OH and i found my oil leak.. wasnt at the mechanical sender.. the damned oil filter had spun loose..

First time thats EVER happened to me in my LIFE.. Im notorious for spinning those f-ers on so hard i have to pound a screwdriver into them to get them out..

You all are trying to do too much now,

I will wait for the OEM sender to come in, I will let you all know how it goes.

Again anyone know the size / type of the threads where the stock sender goes? I would like to put in an aftermarket guage but I am not willing to tear off my oil pump houseing (And everything else that will have to come off) and tap it right now.

Good gawd a new ZZR-600 is looking better by the minute

Hey you know.. It could be the sender.. You might wanna try a mechanical gauge..

Hmm,,

Ok not only "WAS" i having problems with the sender, but my speed sensor was not making signal to my ECU so my 2 step was acting as a revlimiter at 5k rpm (Verry Harsh), Anyways today i crawled on my knees and (Fuk You!) pulled off the connector and added a bit of spit polish to the sensor and plug and low and behold oil pressure is fine, and not only that but for some strange ass reason my speed sensor is working too...

Gawd I love my DSM...

Oh yah then i pull back up to work and one of my co-workers say "Hey man you know your car is smoking".

So meanwhile i cant say, well my turbo is leaking and I was on my way down to modesto to replace the oil return line when i lost oil pressure but now everything is fine but i will have to replace the return line sometime this next week.

Jeez how bad does this sound,,,,, this thing is falling apart no wonder why people like Ben have more OEM new parts on their cars than mitsu has in their warehouses.

Oh yah and Im going to have to do that at the same time I install a new cluch master and slave cylander. Dayum and i wanted to put on my new pretty powder coated valve cover.

the 07 zzr-600 is looking better by the day

Hey I wonder if a mechanical guage could resolve my knock problems.

Thats it everytime someone posts a thread to this problem diagnostics forum im going on there to recommend a mechanical oil pressure guage.

You wanna solve your knock problem run toulene or 100octane.
