Sophia: i won't be able to make it to wrench day. my car is non op at the moment and it'd be a pain to tow it to somewhere just to work on it.

Shaun: Sophia is really nice. she drives the red RS with the turbo kit waiiting to be slapped on and a carbon fiber hood. She's good people.

Welcome back Sophia and nice to meet you! What's wrong with your tranny?

long story,

aamco put dextron in my car..
I didnt double check but later my car went into "limp-in mode" thats where the car sticks in 1st or second gear just to get the car home, shoots out trouble codes and tells you pretty much "dont drive me". Limp in mode is common in my type of tranny, the chrysler 604.. I found out by looking online Allpar.com, that its happens usually after dextron/mercon is installed. I checked up my symptoms, even looked in my factory service manual and checked with different mechanics too.. The web site has a huge amount of testimonials and they all stated that a simple flush and fill cleans up the problem if it hasnt been neglected and driven too long in limp in mode...

I went back to check my reciept and sure enough! aamco had put dextron/mercon in my car when they replaced the input output speed sensors.. I was rather pissed so I contacted the BAR (bureau of automotive repair) and opened a case. The sacramento area office called me immediately and started mediating with aamco for me. Aparently the owner sold the business and started a new business in sandiego, leaving the current owners of the aamco with no liability but he said he would try to see if the owner was cool, just based on the rep of aamco and good business practices. The new owner said he didnt understand what kind of moron would put dextron in the car and apologized as he looked up on his computer what kind of fluid is required.. He said would give me a free flush and fill and also work with me on a deal for a rebuilt one if it needed that and was too late.. totally nice guy. the BAR said if I am not satisfied and have to put out a chunk of change, then I can sue the former owner in small claims court.

so my current issue?

I dont have income, im disabled and the red tape legal crap is so thick that my former employer is getting away for now, with not sending me disability payments.. so this leads me here.. my car is a $ 470.00 per month.. parkinglot ornament, a beautiful shiny ornament but still... and I need to get it filled up with tranny fluid/ full synthetic oil (oil pan cracked/tranny pan leak) some air in the tires and a new battery, then my husband can drive it to aamco for me.. I am not rushing him, he's paying my car payment and rent and keeping me alive right now.. its hard but things are slowly comming together..I can tell you how much I miss the simple freedom of driving.. sure i want to put in the turbo, but right now I just want to F*king drive already.. heh..

my options:
If the tranny is good, I need to rebuild it before installing the turbo.. the boost will kill it.
Manual swap.. if i can get lessons driving a manual car, i can figure out if it hurts my back too much or not and I would do a manual swap if it didnt hurt too much to drive.

that sounds like a lot of hassle.. ya the main reason i got a dsm was becuase i thought they were cheap and easy to fix... now ive learned that a car like that does not exist...

yeah its not the dsm's fault , im really satisfied with my car.. it could be a porche, a dihatsu a honda or a motorcycle with excellent maintenance requirments.... its just impossible to fix ANY car with no job and no ability to get a job ..

but aamco and the automotive industries lack of adherence to factory manual suggestions is something i would like to change. Even the spokesperson for AAMCO couldnt admit anything without hanging themself, saying its the individual owner but they ADVISE them to stick to the specs on cars..
