Also, the FP 68HTA is $899 brand new from Forced Performance with a full warranty..
Costs 3x as much as what? A scrapyard snail with an aftermarket housing? Can't compare the two. * edit - looks like Holsets go for around $1200 new.. And that is in stock housings.. Factor in a housing and you are quite a bit over the $900.00 68HTA. 68HTA's are new and you cant really find them much used, but if you could, I imagine the price would be about the same.. Oh and the 68hta spools at 3100 rpm on my 2.0 and peak torque comes in around 3800 rpm.. HX's don't do that ;) Looking at peak torque on most HX setups i've seen actual dyno sheets from they seem to deliver around 5k rpms.. that extra 1200-1500 rpm of area under the curve REALLY counts on a street car.. Not to mention transient throttle response.. The 68HTA feels like you are driving a NA car.. Anything north of 3k rpms and the spool is instant.. The millisecond your foot hits the floor that turbo is right there..

Oh wait.. Just found an HX for 675 new (still have to add a turbine housing).. Even still I call the 68HTA a superior DD snail.

And that was 675 new without turbine housing..
Still have to add a wastegate/housing.

Uhhhh, You can pick up the turbo D had for roughly $200. I'm pretty sure he didn't pay much either. An HX35 can be had for a couple Hundred, even rebuilt. It has exceptionally fast spool for a turbo of its size, but then again its a billet wheel similar to the HTA technology.
At the end of the day, it is what it is. The 68 is an exceptional turbo but you gotta pay to play. Similar results can be had for less, but I still enjoy the numbers those little guys have been putting down all over the place.

HX35's have cast compressors.. THEY ALL have cast compressors.. Honestly where do you come up with this stuff? SOME manufacturers are offering CNC'd billet aftermarket alternatives.. But a 200 dollar HX35 is going to be a scrapyard special. If you think 900 bucks for a turbo is expensive you gotta find a new hobby - because a 900 dollar turbo is dirt cheap. Lets see...
